Service Projects Engineer

ColonialWebb is seeking a Project Engineer to “learn the ropes” of project management. This individual will act as Project Manager on small, quick-hitting mechanical service projects and assist experienced Project Managers on larger, more complicated mechanical service projects.

This is an entry level position in our Central VA Service Projects department, based out of Richmond, VA.  This department focuses on commercial mechanical construction projects, change-outs, retrofits, installations, and other service projects. 

What you’ll do

  1. Study building plans and working drawings to plan and coordinate project schedule, sequence, production and quality.
  2. Assist in the development of the initial project schedule for CWC work and ensure work complies within project schedule. Interpret and communication schedule.
  3. Responsibility for redemption of equipment, material and estimates, labor and other costs.
  4. Monitor and control project expenditures and manage job cost.
  5. Provide technical engineering information to ensure work complies with engineering standards.
  6. Review submittal data for compliance with contract documents and maintain submittal log.
  7. Develop, submit, and maintain RFI’s.
  8. Procure and expedite equipment, materials, and other deliveries.
  9. Obtain permits when necessary.
  10. Enter purchase orders.
  11. Assist with project billing and collections and in completing job close-out documentation.
  12. Assist administration in maintaining rack set documents and other project documents.
  13. Assist administration in developing and expediting project logs and O&M manuals.
  14. Assist preconstruction and project management in the preparation of estimates.
  15. Assist with job setup processes and other miscellaneous administrative/preconstruction tasks.
  16. Attend jobsite and company meetings, and other functions as required.

What we’re looking for

Preferred Requirements:

  • A couple of years’ project engineering or management experience for a mechanical contractor is nice to have, but not required.
  • Commercial HVAC/plumbing knowledge
  • Working knowledge of mechanical equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of building materials, engineering standards and codes

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction or closely related field
  2. Strong analysis and problem solving skills to resolve complex engineering problems
  3. Client management skills; ability to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations
  4. Production management skills; ability to visualize, plan, and execute to achieve budgeted goals
  5. Acumen for business to include knowledge and interest of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, accounting, cost forecasting, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.
  6. Commitment to and facilitation of ColonialWebb Core Beliefs
  7. Possess a valid driving license and willing to travel to customer sites.
  8. Ability to deal diplomatically and communicate effectively with internal and external customers
  9. Strong written and verbal communication skills
  10. Ability to work without direct supervision
  11. Advanced proficiency interfacing with technology, to include Microsoft Office
  12. Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, but remain calm when handling emergencies
