Test and Balance (TAB) Technicians perform air and water test and balance services within commercial facilities.

 

This is not your typical Test and Balance position.  In this position you will see a lot of variety in daily responsibilities including helping our Building Automation Systems team with commissioning and troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing large systems (VAV systems, industrial systems, hydronics, etc.).  This is your chance to join the team that's been serving Richmond for over 40 years!

What you'll do

  • Maintain the quality of work at acceptable company standards, and for representing the company to the customer in a manner that ensures effective communication and a positive relationship.
  • Ensure adherence to proper departure and arrival procedures through-out the workday.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance at all times.  This applies to the individual as well as his/her truck, tools, and equipment.
  • Obtain purchase orders and make small purchases required during the performance of    work, including maintaining sufficient standard truck inventory; conduct inventory of all         standard truck stock as required.
  • Maintain consistent compliance with company policies and procedures as they relate to proper completion of departmental documentation such as time cards, work orders, etc.
  • Attend periodic meetings with supervisor as required to review work progress and potential problems felt to be beyond his/her ability or authority.
  • Maintain strict adherence to all company safety rules and practices.       
  • Maintain all CW and customer property in a clean and orderly manner at all times.
  • Perform effective and efficient testing, balancing and adjusting of HVAC utilizing flow hoods, manometers, pilot tubes, magnehelics, anemoters, smoke devices, odometers, tachometers, thermometers, psycrometers, and temperature sensing devices; analyze requirements in the event specifications are not available.
  • Perform effective and efficient testing, balancing, and adjusting of hydronic systems utilizing venturi tubes, annular flow indicators, and calibrated balancing valves in          accordance with specifications; analyze requirements in the event specifications are not       available.
  • Perform those calibration tasks to ensure all testing equipment is kept accurate at all times.
  • Complete test and balance reports and forward to service administration for report compilation.
  • Works safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Assist controls and BAS Technicians as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Journeyman level test and balance experience (Preferred) or a minimum of 1 year experience as a Commissioning Technician.
  • NEBB Certification or AABC (not required)
  • Experience troubleshooting/diagnosing large system (VAV systems, industrial systems, hydronics, etc.) issues.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Communication and customer service skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
  • Must be able to work independently and without supervision
  • Must have a clean driving record and able to pass a drug screen and background check

Physical Requirements

  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
  • All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
  • Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below.  
    • Frequent lifting/carrying (Up to 75 lbs.) 
    • Occasional (with help) heavy lifting/carrying (76+ lbs.) 
    • Frequent Pushing/Pulling, repetitive motion, bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, climbing ladders or stairs, stooping, crouching, and working from heights.
    • Occasional sitting
    • Constantly maintaining balance
