Sheet Metal Mechanic

We are seeking experienced Sheet Metal Mechanics to join our Service Projects Sheet Metal team.

In the position you will fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal products and equipment such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.

What you’ll do

  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to SMACNA.
  • Locate and mark dimensions per plans, specifications and shop drawings.
  • Fabricate duct onsite to include miter and alterations to shop fabricated duct.
  • Use hand tools and portable power tools in the installation of joints of duct such as slide and drive, TDF, snap lock, and other assemblies as required.
  • Lay out openings and coordinates with other trades.
  • Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance with job requirements and industry standards.
  • Erect and install equipment such as air handling units, VAV boxes, fan power boxes, and others as required.
  • Loads and unloads construction materials from trucks and into buildings.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and a safe work area (including company vehicle).
  • Teach, coach and provide direction to apprentices and helpers to work safely, deliver quality, and work productivity.
  • Works safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Represent ColonialWebb in a professional manner at all times.

 What we’re looking for

  • Master level sheet metal mechanic experience (10+ years of experience, preferred)
  • Familiar with Ductmate, spiral, slide and drive ductwork.
  • Completion of applicable trade school (preferred)
  • Able to install work from drawings, submittals and specifications
  • Must possess your own hand tools (company will provide power tools).
  • Knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), SMACNA and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Able to read and understand project related documents in the English language.
  • Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
  • Ability to work independently, without direct supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers other tradesmen.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, overtime, and weekends (as necessary)
  • Drug testing and current US work authorization required.

Physical Requirements

  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
  • All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
  • Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below:
    • Frequent lifting/carrying (Up to 75 lbs.)
    • Occasional (with help) heavy lifting/carrying (76+ lbs.)
    • Frequent Pushing/Pulling, repetitive motion, bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, climbing ladders or stairs, stooping, crouching, and working from heights.
    • Occasional sitting
    • Constantly maintaining balance
