Controls Engineer                                   

ColonialWebb is seeking a Controls Engineer to design PLC control systems for design-build industrial refrigeration projects.  This position is based out of our office in Norfolk, VA.

The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing PLC control systems and providing engineering, programming, and commissioning support for industrial refrigeration projects. Work scope will include auditing, planning, design, technical proposal writing, performing/documenting test and maintenance plans, performing system evaluations, producing construction specifications, system integration, system problem resolution, and managing small to medium size projects

  • Lead and perform estimates and conceptual design activities for PLC and industrial controls applications.
  • Produce comprehensive engineering and design packages, reports, and documents.
  • Provide information for technical responses, engineering design, programming, and field support in compliance with established work processes and design standards.
  • Coordination, planning, organizational, control, and programming of engineering projects.
  • Control panel design and construction, and HMI design and programming. 
  • Assist in the development and upkeep of PLC standards for areas related to engineering, programming, and commissioning, and in the development of objectives and strategies for business development.

Requirements:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree.
  2. Five years controls engineering industry experience.
  3. Experience with Allen Bradley and Opto 22 PLC controls, including systems by Frick and AAIM.
  4. Knowledge of building materials, engineering standards, and codes.
  5. Ability to deal diplomatically and communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  6. Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel. 
  7. Advanced proficiency interfacing with technology, including Microsoft Office.
  8. Capable of handling a dynamic, fast paced workload of multiple assignments at the same time with minimum supervision.
  9. Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  10. Ability to maintain a sense of urgency, but remain calm when handling emergencies
