Position Title: Plumber Mechanic
Reports To: Construction Manager
Job Summary: Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.
Requirements:
- Minimum of three years industry experience.
- Knowledge of International Plumbing Code (IPC) and OSHA safety regulations.
- Able to install work from drawings, submittals and specifications
- Able to read and understand project related documents in the English language.
- Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
- Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
- Ability to make decisions based on information at hand.
- Work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment.
- Completion of apprenticeship program and/or trade licensure preferred.
- Ability to work without direct supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers other tradesmen.
Primary Responsibilities/Duties:
- Follow specific directions from project supervision.
- Performs a variety of duties which may often change.
- Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations.
- Survey structure to identify obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.
- Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob.
- Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools.
- Install hanger systems as specified in construction documents.
- Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, port-a-band saw, reciprocating saw, torch, and pipe-threading machine.
- Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals such as iron, steel, brass, and copper, and nonmetals such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools.
- Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, brazing, grooving, plastic solvent, and caulk joints.
- Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking.
- Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, water closets, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, water softeners, and other fixtures as required.
- Loads and unloads construction materials from trucks and into buildings.
- Maintains good housekeeping and a safe work area.
- Teach, coach and provide direction to apprentices and helpers to work safely, deliver quality, and work productivity.
- Works safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Performs the duties of a helper as described separately.
- Other duties as assigned by jobsite supervision or Construction Manager.
Physical Requirements:
- See well (either naturally or with correction).
- Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
- Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below. All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
