Position Title:  Sheet Metal Mechanic

Reports To:  Construction Manager

Job Summary:  Fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs sheet metal products and equipment such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of three years industry experience.
  2. Knowledge of International Mechanical Code (IMC), SMACNA and OSHA safety regulations.
  3. Able to install work from drawings, submittals and specifications
  4. Able to read and understand project related documents in the English language.
  5. Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
  6. Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  7. Ability to make decisions based on information at hand.
  8. Work easily and skillfully with hands.
  9. Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment.
  10. Ability to work without direct supervision.
  11. Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers other tradesmen.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Follow specific directions from project supervision.
  2. Perform a variety of duties which may often change.
  3. Select gauge and type of sheet metal according to SMACNA.
  4. Locate and mark dimensions per plans, specifications and shop drawings.
  5. Fabricate duct onsite to include miter and alterations to shop fabricated duct.
  6. Use hand tools and portable power tools in the installation of joints of duct such as slide and drive, TDF, snap lock, and other assemblies as required.
  7. Lay out openings and coordinates with other trades.
  8. Inspects assemblies and installation for conformance with job requirements and industry standards.
  9. Erect and install equipment such as air handling units, VAV boxes, fan power boxes, and others as required.
  10. Loads and unloads construction materials from trucks and into buildings.
  11. Maintains good housekeeping and a safe work area.
  12. Teach, coach and provide direction to apprentices and helpers to work safely, deliver quality, and work productivity.
  13. Works safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
  14. Performs the duties of a helper as described separately.
  15. Other duties as assigned by jobsite supervision or Construction Manager.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. See well (either naturally or with correction).
  2. Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
  3. Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below. All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
