Position Title:  Sheet Metal Helper

Reports To:  Construction Manager

Job Summary: Assists mechanic with fabrication, assembly, installation, and repairs of sheet metal products and equipment such as ductwork, plenums, fire dampers, and diffusers.

Requirements:

  1. Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication).
  2. Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
  3. Work easily and skillfully with hands.
  4. Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers other tradesmen.
  6. Ability to work with direct supervisor.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Duties:

  1. Follow specific directions from project supervision.
  2. Performs a variety of duties which may often change.
  3. Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure.
  4. Help set up tools and equipment.
  5. Loads and unloads construction materials from trucks and into buildings.
  6. Furnishes experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
  7. Cleans work area and restocks supplies and materials as necessary.
  8. Makes subassemblies and hangers as directed by mechanic.
  9. Assists in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and devices during installation.
  10. May perform minor maintenance or cleaning of mechanic’s tools and equipment.
  11. Performs other routine duties as directed by experienced craft person.
  12. Maintains good housekeeping and a safe work area.
  13. Works safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
  14. Other duties as assigned by jobsite supervision or Construction Manager.

 

Physical Requirements:

  1. See well (either naturally or with correction).
  2. Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
  3. Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below. All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
