Delivery Driver

Comfort Systems USA-ColonialWebb is seeking a Deliver Driver with valid CDL Class A license.  This position is based out of our Richmond, VA headquarters and delivers to jobsites throughout our region, specifically in Central Virginia.

The driver operates vehicles and specialized light construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Work requires considerable skill in operating vehicles, manipulating equipment and constant attention to safety of operation in order to prevent accidents.

What you’ll do

  • Fully understand DOT and OSHA regulations in the safe operation of applicable vehicle.
  • Follow all appropriate safety procedures in the transportation of cargo.
  • Check vehicle to ensure all mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
  • Safely drive and operate various types of vehicles. Types of vehicles include, but are not limited to tractor-trailer, flat-bed, stake-body, and pick-up.
  • Secure cargo for transport using appropriate chains, straps, covers, tie-downs, gates, etc. 
  • Inspect loads to ensure cargo is secure.
  • Properly and safely load/unload material from trucks to maximize space and efficiency.
  • Safely and skillfully operates forklift equipment as necessary to deliver/pickup materials.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to supervisor.
  • Follow all department, jobsite, and customer protocols in the delivery/pick-up of cargo.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods, as required.
  • Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy. Ensure all paperwork—i.e., drawings, spool sheets, etc.—are delivered with associated delivery for field installation.
  • Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance tasks such as making simple adjustments and lubricating equipment.  This includes ensuring proper equipment in available and maintained for proper security and material handling—i.e., chains, straps, covers, tie-downs, gates, etc.
  • Trains others on the proper operation of equipment.
  • Detect necessary equipment repairs by (visually and/or aurally) perceiving malfunctions.
  • Comprehend and make inferences from written materials such as equipment operations manuals.
  • Make fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the elements.
  • Loads and unloads construction materials from trucks and into buildings.
  • Maintains good housekeeping and a safe work area, including adequate upkeep and cleanliness of trucks and trailers.
  • Works safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures. Maintains PPE and wears proper PPE all times necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What we’re looking for

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License
  • Minimum of three years industry experience, preferred.
  • Ability to safely drive various types of vehicles and construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely load, unload and secure cargo.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in vehicle and equipment operation.
  • Hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions for heavy equipment operation.
  • Operation of assigned equipment per manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, overtime, and weekends.
  • Understand and comply with simple written and verbal instructions given in the English language.
  • Work cooperatively with other employees and the public.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers other tradesmen.
  • Ability to work with direct supervisor.

Physical Requirements

  • See well (either naturally or with correction).
  • Ability to wear personal protection equipment such as hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, fall protection, safety shoes, high visibility vest and others as required.
  • Physically capable of working with hands and legs as outlined below. All employees are expected to use good judgment while performing physical job requirements and aware of their own personal physical limitations. Heavy lifting may require the use of material lifting equipment, personnel assistance, or additional help as necessary.
