Industrial Refrigeration Engineer

This position is based out of Norfolk, VA.

What you’ll do

  • Design refrigeration systems for food distribution centers, cold storage, and food processing facilities.
  • Perform heat load calculations to determine the refrigeration requirements of the facilities.
  • Perform heat transfer and thermodynamic analysis associated with sizing and selection of refrigeration equipment, piping, and control valves.
  • Develop P&ID’s, flow diagrams, plans and specifications for refrigeration systems.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to others in the development of construction layouts, documents and specifications for projects.
  • Ensures contract scope of work is delivered by monitoring team performance using performance measurement methods.
  • Review submittal drawings and data for compliance with contract documents.
  • Develop and submit RFI’s
  • Assist administration in developing O&M manuals.

Preferred Requirements

  • Industrial refrigeration engineering experience
  • Successful completion of EIT or PE Exam
  • Knowledge of industrial refrigeration piping systems and equipment associated with ammonia refrigeration systems for food distribution centers, cold storage, and food processing facilities
  • Understanding of food processing, bottling, baking, warehousing and other industries associated with production, storage, packaging and distribution of food products

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of building materials, engineering standards and codes.
  • Client management skills; ability to manage customer relationships, perceptions and expectations
  • Production management skills; ability to visualize, plan, and execute to achieve budgeted goals
  • Ability to deal diplomatically with internal and external customers at various levels within an organization—i.e., owners, GC’s, subcontractors, engineers, superintendents, draftsmen, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency interfacing with technology, including knowledge and experience using Microsoft Excel for cost estimating and engineering functions.
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
